r4d programme Mid-term Review Report published
The Mid-term Review report and the management response of the r4d Steering Committee are published and now available online. The Mid-term Review provides interesting insights for funders and researchers into the specifics, the challenges and the opportunities of the r4d programme.
Five years after its inception, the r4d programme was externally reviewed by Universalia, a Canadian management consulting firm specialised in monitoring and evaluation. The Mid-Term Review (MTR) covered the period from the start of the programme in 2012 until end of 2016. Its objectives were to provide insights into the efficiency and effectiveness of the programme, to highlight lessons learned thus far, and to inform the remainder of the programme until December 2021 and research for development programming more broadly.
The final report is an interesting document for funders and resarchers interested in the specificities of this joint funding instrument of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).
The MTR used a mixed methods approach and included the views of diverse informants such as researchers, research users, Review Panel members, SDC and SNSF board members, r4d programme management staff and r4d Steering Committee members.
The r4d programme acknowledges this extensive and useful final report and welcomes its findings. The r4d Steering Committee provides a management response which is included in the report.
The r4d programme publishes a long version (PDF), including the full report and the management response, and a short version (PDF), including the executive summary, the recommendations and the management response.
